Dermoscopy CME module

Benign neoplasms II: Vascular lesions: angioma, lymphangioma, angiokeratoma, port wine, PG, etc

Presented by Elizabeth Seiverling, MD

Review of dermoscopic hallmarks of benign vascular lesions—cherry angiomas, angiokeratomas, superficial lymphatic malformations, and pyogenic granulomas—with emphasis on lacunae/lakes of blood, white septa, color clues, and PG’s homogeneous red with white collarette/white rail lines. Contrasts mimickers (amelanotic/acral melanoma, SCC), highlights clinical context, planning, and when to biopsy versus conservative management.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
  • Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
  • Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.

This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
