Dermoscopy CME module
Approach to evaluating facial lesions
Presented by Harold Rabinovitz, MD
Speaker outlines a dermoscopic approach to isolated facial pigmented lesions on sun-damaged skin, emphasizing early melanoma detection. Distinguishes annular and reticular patterns; highlights gray dots/granules, angulated lines, circle within a circle, and white shiny structures as melanoma clues. Reviews differentials, biopsy choice favoring excisional/deep shave, and management with staged excision/Mohs.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
