Dermoscopy CME module
Trichoscopy
Presented by David Swanson, MD
Trichoscopy improves evaluation of alopecia by separating non-scarring from scarring disease, directing biopsies, and tracking response. Hallmarks include hair miniaturization in androgenetic alopecia, shedding in telogen effluvium, broken hairs in trichotillomania, zigzag/barcode hairs in tinea capitis, and perifollicular scale, pustules, or tufting in scarring disorders; management and key pitfalls reviewed.
33-minute video lecture · 0.5 CME credits
Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Outline a logical framework for evaluating cutaneous lesions, nail lesions, hair disorders, rashes, and infestations.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
