Dermoscopy CME module
Melanoma specific structures
Presented by Natalia Jaimes, MD
Review of melanoma-specific dermoscopic structures with high specificity as red flags. Triage by organization: disorganized lesions are biopsied; organized melanomas rely on clues—atypical network/globules, angulated lines, negative network, off-center blotch, regression (peppering/scar), shiny white lines, atypical vessels, peripheral structureless areas, streaks/pseudopods, blue-white veil. Use polarized light, consider age/site context carefully.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
