Dermoscopy CME module
AK & SCC
Presented by Harold Rabinovitz, MD, Margaret Oliviero-Rabinovitz, NP
Review of dermoscopic criteria for actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma. Key signs include dotted or coiled (glomerular) vessels, keratin scale and pearls, shiny white structures/rosettes, white circles, and thick white anastomosing lines. Patterns distinguish in situ, invasive, recurrent, and pigmented lesions, and gauge differentiation, guide biopsy, and triage treatment.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Discuss the armamentarium of treatments available for managing actinic keratosis and for prevention (including chemoprevention) of skin cancer.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
