Dermoscopy CME module
Dermoscopic Structures: Histopathology Correlations (Melanocytic)
Presented by Ashfaq Marghoob, MD
Overview of dermoscopic–histopathologic correlates in melanocytic lesions. Clarifies pigment vs negative networks and reticular depigmentation; angulated lines; streaks; dots/globules; shiny white lines; blue-white veil vs regression; blotches. Key cues: negative network→melanoma in nevus; angulated lines→lentigo maligna; streaks→radial growth; haphazard dots/globules→melanoma. Pearls: polarized light, angular dependence, tape stripping, palpation, and vessels.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
