Dermoscopy CME module
Dermoscopy of non-white skin
Presented by Richard Usatine, MD
This lecture reviews dermoscopy in non-white skin. Classic patterns apply. Nuances: darker nevi with less-visible vessels; some dermatofibromas lack a central scar; pigmented BCCs are frequent and recognizable. SCC predominates in Black patients. Identify acral/subungual melanoma (parallel ridge, Hutchinson sign). UV dermoscopy aids scabies detection. Biopsy selectively; address access inequities.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
