Dermoscopy CME module
The Universe of Nevi
Presented by Ashfaq Marghoob, MD
Updates dermoscopic and biologic understanding of nevi, moving beyond congenital/acquired to mutation-driven subtypes. Reviews location-specific patterns; melanoma risk in congenital and speckled lesions; blue and Spitz/Reed variability; intradermal–melanoma associations; and BAP1-inactivated nevi. Emphasizes when dermoscopy helps or fails, clues to melanoma arising in nevi, and thresholds for monitoring versus biopsy.

Learning objectives
After completing this module, you should be able to:
- Identify the features associated with melanocytic and non-melanocytic malignancies and identify the features to help differentiate them from benign lesions.
- Outline a management approach for lesions, based on their clinical and dermoscopic morphology.
- Summarize the pivotal role of Dermoscopy as the gateway not only into improved diagnostic accuracy but also improvements in management, treatment, and appropriate use of ancillary tests/devices such as digital monitoring, reflectance confocal microscopy, and gene expression profiling.
This faculty-led module is part of the American Dermoscopy Certificate Program. Enrolled members watch the full lecture and claim CME credit on completion.
